Once you got out of the habit of hitting F5 or checking email every 3 minutes, and over the boredom that came from doing those things without any sensory payback, it was kind of nice. We all got lots of filing done.
Well it passed, and we lost. Its awful that my happiness for having a new president who's name is Obama and who will be a great president was dampen considerably by this. But here's hoping he lends a hand federal government side, and helps correct this.

Things have been so busy. Work has picked up a bit due to new studies. Then evenings have been hectic due to work hard for the no on prop 8 campaign. I'll be out tonight getting out the word. Lets hope we defeat this discriminatory and downright offensive proposition!!!

if you live in California remember to VOTE NO ON 8 to protect equal rights!

This past weekend was packed full. Friday night Dave and I took Brendon to have some chinese-vegetarian food in San Gabriel, then we spent some time hanging out at Brendon's place.

Then Saturday, it was breakfast, then going and doing calling for the No on 8 campaigne, that I was completely dreading, but that turned out to be rather uneventful. I called a total of 105 people, and spoke with a whopping 10, 6 of which were not the people I was intending to reach, 4 of which were Spanish speaking (they didn't have the Spanish script so I didn't pursue it), and the other 2 were already going to vote no. Turns out not very many people are at home at noon on a Saturday.

Once that was done, it was off to the California Cactus Center, where I was overwhelm slightly the variability. Since most of their stuff is harder to find and rare, it was more expensive than the usual, but not so when you got to the basic can find anywhere plants. The thing about these is that they were beautiful. I ended up getting a couple of sedums for Julie as a housewarming present, a tropical succulent for Dave that's hard to described, but basically has a single flower that is flat and bright yellow and red and is hard like a paddle. Then we also got mini versions of a cactus with beautiful silky leafs, and then i picked up a another "donkey tail" hanging succulent. My hope was to get a nopal to grow, but it was 45 bucks for the 5 gallon version, but the lady said i should just get a cutting and grow my own.

After that it was a quick run to Restaurant Depot, then for some burgers, and finally back home.

Then an hour of relaxation and it was off to Julie and Scott's house warming party, which when on until about 11pm, and was loads of fun. Lots of beer as expected and good conversation, and succulent talk with Julie.

Then Sunday while Dave waited for quartet people to show up, and went to downtown for my usual flower purchase, this time leaving only having spent 6.50 on 3 bunches of flowers that once I got home realized didn't work so great with each other. Since I also wanted to plant some of the succulent i had, I worked on that then realized i didn't have enough succulent mix, and so it was off to the San Gabriel Nursery for a huge bag of mix. But oh! What's this?! A sale! Haha, I left with 40 dollars of succulents and an 8 dollar bag of mix. They were awesome specimens though. My favorite one was though was this super tall stiff succulent that was 3 bucks.

Anyway, the rest of Sunday was spent not doing much of anything until we went to have dinner in Artesia. Vegetarian Indian food. This turned out to be a little awkward and a sub par, but still fun.

I want a computer but the new macbooks are less than stellar. I'm either going to get the just previous model or maybe hack a dell mini 9 until a better apple option comes along. =(

Homecoming

I've returned home, safe and sound, from my trip to Mexico. Arriving on Tuesday to LAX one thing was at least clear, I hate waiting for checked bags to come down the carrousel.

i had a great time, mostly due to the fact that my young cousins whom i haven't seen since they were little are now fairly well adjusted, interesting, smart teenagers, coupled with the fact that my grandmother seems to be doing slightly better, and that I just so happen to go during the end of the yearly festival, meant that good times were had.

I didn't really do much with my mom's side of the family since they're all older than me, and married and doing their own thing. My dad's side of the family is more lively and younger, so that's who i spent my time with. In regards to age range, i'm squarely in the middle between my aunts and my cousins, and ended up spending about equal time with each group.

I'd love to go into more detail about what the yearly festival entails, and my mom's house, and other things, but I'm super tired. I'll add more pictures to the set of picture tomorrow, and with any luck write descriptions for the available pictures. But you can still enjoy the pictures in the mean time.

Basically large roombas with their own elevators and are being used to carry large loads of things like linens.

Lastly, I completely goofed, and bought my tickets to leave Wednesday 12:35am not Thursday 12:35am....see in my head I wanted to leave Wednesday night. I just totally love the neutral tones, and the cubist aspects of it, and how it has a taste of being a scene in Mexico. Its huge! It would be awesome if i could get some help getting more info about the artist.

Tonight, i took some time to finally finish putting in planters and pots some of the succulents i have recently bought. I'm hoping to have a huge succulent garden. I also planted another attempt to grow morning glories. This time i actually allowed them to soak for more than 25 hours, and they started sprouting, which didn't happen the last time. Lets hope they grow!

Work life has been a bit crazy as of late. Many long hours week after week are now culminating in the office being rearranged and being more on top of each other than we already where. That being said, in the long run this may prove to give our division more space to store our things. I have to be at work at 8am for a teleconference on a new database, and then I have a 1pm meeting with the people who horribly designed the office the first time around, at which time i get to tell them how I want it. Yey!

As for life outside of work, its been busy as well. This weekend, Dave and I have been thriftering for picnic blankets, and managed to end up with many new pieces of art. At the out of the closet in atwater, he picked up two Chinese carved cork landscapes similar to this one, but twice as long. I bought a painting that's too big for my apartment, so it will most likely live at Dave's for now, that's a 1970s almost cubist, nude descending a staircase, with a bit of mexican influence, that mostly in brown tones. I'll post a picture of it later. Then on the way back home from Artisia, having indian food, we stopped by Saint Vincent's Du Paul -still in the search for picnic blankets- we learned that framed art was 50% off. So he picked up a Miro print for 10 bucks, and I some gigantic museum art exhibit print for 5! That one is going to the office.

Today, and much of my other time has been wasted -thanks, but no thanks to seung- playing Fantastic Contraption. I'm currently trying to solve level 14. The game is a physics based puzzle game where you have to get an object from one end of the screen to a goal on some other location working within a set space and using set objects that have certain charesteristics. My favorite solution so far can be seen here.

The other thing taking my time has been the look out for new music. I've downloaded the new Dr. Dog album as well as the new Albert Hammond Jr album. I've not had a chance to listen to them much as of yet, but I'll let you know how they turn out. Earlier today to, Dave and I headed to the Rockaway storewide sale, that for me yielded not much. I did pick up 2 cds, though neither one of them was of anyone i was familiar with. The first being a band called Rocket - Too Hot To Be Bothered, which all hot pink cd cover suggested it be filed under Blondcore and Juvenile jive, and its inside cover promised a melodic diary of fun-based Pacific Ocean pop...." Its basically like the Donnas, only all summer fun-ized. The other was bought primarily due to the fact that its cool baby blue jewel case was original and that it was a K records album. That and the fact it was a buck 50 didn't hurt. Having only have heard of the first minute of the first track and can not yet tell what the music style is, but the band's name is ICU.

And finally, one of my fantasies has always been to be one of those people who wake up at 6am on Sunday and goes to the flower mart in downtown first thing in the morning with a cup of coffee and pick up some flowers for the week. I went this morning. It was neither with a cup of coffee or first thing in the morning. That being said, for 8 bucks i got 3 times as many flowers as from a flower shop, and because i got there so late, there was plenty of parking. Winner: Me.

Oh yeah, don't forget, Picnic Club next week Sunday. Be there, or be you squared.

But in case you haven't done it, and you're an Architecture in Helsinki fan, or even if you're not, you should download the Dr. Dog cover of Heart It Races, from spin.com here 8.9mb mp3.

Its been quite some time

But luckily, I do believe I've had the chance to see many of you in the real world, as appose to this virtual one that unites us.

The latter end of June, and most of July has been rather busy. I went to 3(4?) shows with a revolving group of people: Saw Wobbly (one of Dave's old friends) and Matmos at Echoplex with Dave, then went to see L-Kan and La Monja Enana at the Echo (at hang the Djs) with Danny [This was a super duper fantastic show. It was just wow. Pictures here], and then went to see The Definate Articles (Jon and Shawn's band) at club Moscow with Julie and Scott. There we ran into Eric, Gabe, Keiffer, and Chris.

Along with all this, Dave and I met up with Jake and Miranda, for drinks at the Bounty, then met with them again the next day for breakfast, where all company from the night before was present and with the addition of Zoha, Narin, and Jann. A delightful breakfast was had thanks in most part by Julie, Dave, and Zoha who provided food.

Then there was picnic club, of which pictures were posted earlier, was a load of fun and attended by many.

Beyond all this hobnobbing, things have been busy at work. We started a new protocol that was intense, with my subject having a rather severe reaction the first day. Which in turn made the whole week super duper long. Now that that's done, and several other patient visits, i have a mountain of paper work to catch up on. Which I've done lots of today, but still have a good 2 days of it to go.

Then the few days I've been at home, I've spent them trying to clean up. I have so much junk that the job seems like it will never end. I bought a new coffee table and lamp from craiglist and Dave donated an old desk lamp he no longer was using.

I'm trying my best to get rid of junk in an environmentally conscious fashion, with a box of old electronics to recycle, and papers for recycling, things to keep, things to donate or give away. Sadly more things than i would like are ended up in the trash pile. =(

This past week's earthquake was crazy. I was with a patient at the time, who sort of freaked out, but not badly. The building I'm in is relatively new and is on rollers. So all was well here. At home just little things fell, but nothing major. I really should get my bookcases attached to the wall.

I suppose that's a good snap shot of what I've been up to. I'll see you in meatspace.

Rubber Baby Bumper Cars: super duper interesting thigns for you to read

Fooled you!

It was Susy's wedding on Saturday, which was pleasant enough, though somewhat uneventful for a wedding. The ceremony was sparsely attended, a surprise for a Mexican wedding. Even more shocking was that it looked as if there were empty seats at the reception. That being said, it was an open bar, and it was nice to hang out with the high school friends again.

On Sunday, i got a hair cut. A horrible hair cut. Its a dramatic change from before, and not 1 person here at work, has bothered to even mention it. I think they're just being polite and not acknowledging its awfulness to spare my feelings. Worst is that I paid 30 bucks (24 +6 bucks tip) for it. I'll be sticking with my usual lady from now on.

I went running yesterday for the first time in months. Mostly to be proactive about getting rid of the extra 8 pounds I've packed on in the last 6 or so months. It was not too shabby, but I have amazingly low stamina, so that I was walking half the time, out of breath. So awful. To make matters worse, i did not take water with me, and I went running about 20 minutes after finishing dinner. All these things combined to make a somewhat unpleasant run, in a gastronomical sense. Thankfully, ipod was a good distraction, and it was nice to jog around other people. Today my legs are sore all over, and walking up stairs -or down them for that matter- comes with a nice sharp pain at every step. =)

Then there is the bodily scratches i seem to be inflicting on myself without knowing. Starting sometime last month, i started getting scratches on my body, from who knows where. They're all minor things, but its a mystery. Started with a scratch on my tummy, then one my thigh, then one on my right arm, and today I have a long scratch on my forearm.

At this very moment, though, I am particularly tired. A bird of some sort, I think it was a malicious crow, was making a tremendous racket outside and woke me up at about 4am. It just ruined my sleep. I wish i could go home and take a nap. Maybe pretend my hair is not awful.

Its been really interesting following this story regarding a letter that was received by Fermi Labs.

They asked help from the public to decode it, since they either they just couldn't figure it out themselves, or no one gave it a real try within Fermilabs. It took 2 days for 2 people to decode most of it. My favorite explanation is here. With the follow-up here.

Fun!
